Coffee table of board of petrified wood on custom made metal strcuture. This board or longitudinal cut (a section that is cut along the axis of the tree) nicely shows part of the rough rim in combination with the highly polished cut surface. The petrified wood is from Arizona. The metal work is done by our friend and collegue master black smith Pascal Tupker from Soest. Petrified wood is the result of a tree or tree-like plants having completely transitioned to stone or crystal by the process of per-mineralisation. All the organic materials have been replaced with minerals (mostly quartz), while retaining the original structure of the stem tissue. This "monkey puzzle tree"or Araucaria shows the typical rainbow colours of this world reknown locality. The best quality petrified wood, like this piece, is 99% pure quartz.
It is impervious to stain and is extremely hard thus making a very stable, usable surface. No particular care is required and can be cleaned with glass cleaner and cloth.
No appointment is required on Saturdays and st1 gallery is open from 12:00 to 17:00. You are welcome to come and admire the geode in real life.
